Publish date: 2024-06-16

MINNEAPOLIS, Aug. 2, 2019 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- Cirtec Medical Corporation, a strategic outsourcing partner for complex medical devices, including active implantables and minimally invasive devices, today announced that it has begun construction on a 30,000 sq. ft. manufacturing facility in the Coyol free zone, located in Alajuela, Costa Rica, about 15 miles from San Jose.

The facility, which is expected to be fully operational by the end of the year, will be the company's first venture into Latin America and is a result of Cirtec's growth and the increased demand for high volume, cost-effective manufacturing. The facility will deliver expanded value-added manufacturing services such as neurostimulation leads, coil winding, and finished device assembly and packaging. The state-of-the-art facility will include class 7 and class 8 clean rooms and office space with additional room for future expansion. The operation will require the hiring of at least 40 local employees for the facility within the first year of operation.

"We are excited about this new facility in Coyol. Costa Rica's business environment, infrastructure and skilled workforce make it an ideal location," said Brian Highley, CEO of Cirtec. "Not only will it expand our manufacturing capabilities, but will enable us to meet our customers' needs by keeping costs competitive and reducing lead times, all while maintaining the quality and service they have come to expect."

There are currently over 70 medical device companies operating in Costa Rica, with 63% of them in the Coyol Free Zone. The country is second only to Mexico as a medical device exporter in Latin America.
